TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taipei City Council Deputy Speaker Yeh Lin-chuan (葉林傳) is the focus of an investigation into illegal gambling at game parlors, reports said Thursday.
Prosecutors launched raids on 17 locations, including Yeh’s home and council office, and summoned him along with 11 other defendants and three witnesses, the Liberty Times reported. The probe centers on allegations of corruption, influence peddling, and illegal gambling.
The investigators went as far back as eight years to review questions Yeh posed as a KMT city councilor during the review of legislation about video game arcades. The politician has reportedly managed gaming parlors from behind the scenes with a suspected accomplice surnamed Chi (紀).
A separate investigation found that an office manager for Yeh was involved in running and investing in hostess bars. Prosecutors questioned 36 people in May in connection with the case, but it is not known whether the new accusations against Yeh were the result of the earlier probe.
