TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Gum Gum Egg, the fourth branch of the popular Gum Gum Chicken Wings & Beer restaurant chain, opened its doors at the Taipei Arena on Friday.
This new location not only introduces two fresh chicken wing flavors — Mexican spicy honey and Japanese black vinegar — but also elevates the dining experience with a focus on brunch and an outdoor beer bar.
Gum Gum Egg is the first restaurant at Taipei Arena to feature an outdoor craft beer bar, offering a wide selection of craft beers and cocktails. This addition, combined with the new pizza sandwich brunch series, positions the restaurant as a perfect spot for any time of day, from a leisurely meal to a relaxed evening drink.
Since its first opening in 2017, Gum Gum has developed over 30 flavors, with 10 to 15 popular options always on the menu. In 2020, Gum Gum was recognized by the international travel website Big 7 Travel as having the best chicken wings in Taipei.
The key to their success lies in their commitment to quality ingredients and technique. CEO Yu Chun-wei (余鈞瑋) explained that Gum Gum uses air-chilled chicken, a process that is 20% more expensive than traditional water-chilled methods. By hanging each chicken individually in a cold air environment, the meat retains its moisture and natural juices, resulting in a superior texture and flavor.
This meticulous process is essential for their signature unbattered American-style chicken wings, where the focus is on the succulent meat and rich sauces, not on a crispy fried coating.
The two new chicken wing flavors at the Taipei Arena branch are already creating a buzz. The Mexican spicy honey is a delightful blend of spicy seasonings and sweet honey, creating a sauce that is both savory and zesty. The Japanese black vinegar is a first for the brand, offering a tangy and refreshing flavor profile with a mix of Japanese black vinegar, soy sauce, and mirin.
There is also a strong emphasis on its brunch menu. The new pizza sandwich series, made with Neapolitan-style pizza dough, is a must-try. The honey butter and smoked thick-cut bacon flavor balances the smoky bacon with a sweet and sour fermented honey sauce, while the dill cream smoked salmon is a lighter, herb-infused option designed to appeal to a wider audience.
The restaurant's interior design, inspired by the egg-shaped structure of the Taipei Arena, uses earthy tones and gentle curves to create a relaxed and inviting atmosphere, complemented by large, lush plants. To celebrate its opening, Gum Gum Egg offers a 50% discount on all menu items for the first three days.
