TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Central Weather Administration issued an extremely heavy rain advisory for Taipei and New Taipei from noon through Tuesday evening.
The Taipei City Government forecast that Wenshan, Xinyi, and Nangang districts could see hourly rainfall approaching 90–100 millimeters. In response, the Taipei Emergency Operation Center issued a Level 3 alert—equivalent to a typhoon warning—per CNA.
The city government also warned of thunderstorms in southeastern Taipei, including the possibility of hail and gusts exceeding Level 6 on the Beaufort scale.

Residents were urged to use caution when going outdoors. Those in low-lying areas should beware of flooding, while those in mountainous regions should watch for landslides, falling rocks, and swollen streams.
Authorities said personnel from various departments have been deployed to handle potential emergencies. Each department has also activated an internal emergency response team to coordinate rapid disaster response.
Former CWA Director-General Cheng Ming-dean (鄭明典) wrote on Facebook that southwesterly air currents are converging in northern Taiwan. Under such conditions, strong afternoon convective systems frequently develop in the Taipei Basin.
The CWA noted that these rapidly forming convective clouds can trigger intense, short-duration rainfall. In addition to Taipei and New Taipei, heavy rain advisories have been extended to Yilan County, Keelung’s North Coast, and the mountainous areas of Taoyuan and Hsinchu counties.
