TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Taoyuan City Fire Department dispatched four search and rescue personnel early Thursday morning to climb a high-voltage tower and lower a deceased person hanging from a power line to the ground.
The individual was first reported Wednesday afternoon, seen hanging from a power line behind Longshou Industrial Park in Taoyuan’s Guishan District. An initial inspection by Taipower found the person was not an employee and showed no vital signs, per CNA.
After the body was lowered, police said they suspect the deceased was a missing migrant worker and have preliminarily ruled out homicide. The tower is approximately 60 meters tall, or nearly 20 stories.

To carry out the rescue, Taipower personnel ascended the tower at 6 a.m. to shut off the power. The Fire Department then deployed a drone, and four rescuers climbed the tower, secured a rope to the body at 9:50 a.m., and lowered it to the ground around 10 a.m.
The man was estimated to be between 30 and 40 years old and is believed to have died from material caught around his neck. Police said there were no signs of external involvement.
They believe he may have been a migrant worker missing for three days. A colleague reported the incident after tracing the man’s phone signal to the tower.
