TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – An EVA Air flight to Manila had to turn back to Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport after a loss of cabin pressure, reports said Thursday.
Shortly after taking off at 9:24 a.m., a warning light came on indicating that flight BR271 had lost cabin pressure, the Liberty Times reported. Oxygen masks dropped from the overhead compartments, with the crew telling the passengers on the Boeing 777-300ER to put them on.
The airline explained it followed protocol by ordering the pilot to fly the plane back to Taoyuan, where it landed at 10:42 a.m. EVA arranged for another aircraft of the same type to take the passengers to the Philippine capital.
The airline said it offered meal vouchers so passengers could have lunch at the airport. Officials apologized to customers for the inconvenience.
The Civil Aeronautics Administration said it would investigate the incident according to procedure, while the Taiwan Transportation Safety Board is sending three teams to the airport to collect information before deciding whether to open an official probe, per UDN.
