TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Fugro Taiwan on Wednesday won a site investigation contract for the 700 MW Youde offshore wind farm, marking another milestone in the firm’s role in Taiwan’s green energy expansion.
Commissioned by Shinfox Energy, the contract covers geotechnical investigations in Taiwan’s western waters, per CNA. Fugro Taiwan has already begun operations, with the project scheduled to wrap in the fourth quarter.
Shalu Shajahan, Regional Business Line Director Asia Pacific at Fugro, said the deal was a major milestone. He added that it reflects Shinfox Energy’s confidence in Fugro’s track record and capabilities in Taiwan’s offshore wind sector, which it has supported since 2016.
Fugro Taiwan Chair Tsai Ming-ko (蔡明格) said the company would use its ISO-certified labs and integrated services to help accelerate the development of offshore wind energy in Taiwan. He noted the company’s long-term commitment to the local renewables market.
The survey is being carried out by the Pacific Hornbill, a Taiwan-flagged DP2 dynamic positioning vessel operated by Fugro Taiwan and managed by International Ocean Group. The vessel is equipped with a C30 marine geotechnical drilling system and Fugro’s Wison MkV EcoDrive cone penetration system.
Youde offshore wind farm is one of several large-scale projects approved under Taiwan’s third round of offshore wind development. The government aims to reach 15 GW of installed offshore capacity by 2035.
