TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – After forming near Guam on Friday, Tropical Storm Podul could reach Taiwan around the middle of next week, according to forecasters.
The storm is set to head west from the US territory and enter the Bashi Channel between Taiwan and the Philippines from the east on Aug. 13, the Central Weather Administration said Friday.
With south Taiwan still recovering from Typhoon Danas and weeks of heavy rain, residents are monitoring how close the next storm will come, per Liberty Times.
If Podul heads straight for Taiwan’s east coast, it might become weaker, posing less of a threat. However, if it moves toward the southeast, it could encounter conditions that may help it strengthen into a typhoon.
Meteorologists need to monitor Podul for at least another 48 hours before being able to determine its direction and strength.
