TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Typhoon Podul is forecast to make landfall on Taiwan’s east coast on Wednesday and affect the entire nation through Thursday, according to the Central Weather Administration.
Temperatures may top 36 C in Greater Taipei on Monday, with highs up to 35 C in other regions. Brief afternoon showers are expected in western Taiwan, Yilan, and eastern mountainous areas, while the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to sunny, per CNA.
As of Monday, the storm was about 1,410 kilometers east of Taiwan, moving west at 23 kph. The CWA said it may strengthen Monday and could trigger a sea warning on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, the north and east are expected to see scattered showers or thunderstorms, while central and southern regions may have brief showers. Heavy rain is likely in some southern mountain areas.
By Thursday afternoon, the typhoon is expected to move away, easing rainfall. Occasional brief showers may still occur in central, southern, and southeastern regions, with other areas mostly cloudy.
From Friday through the weekend, brief showers are expected in eastern and southeastern Taiwan, with afternoon thunderstorms in other regions.
