TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Typhoon Podul is set to reach Taiwan on Wednesday, prompting widespread closures in the south and east while most northern areas remain open.
The Central Weather Administration has expanded land warnings to include all areas south of Changhua, as well as Hualien and Taitung, per CNA.
Keelung, Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu City, Hsinchu County, Miaoli, Taichung, Changhua, and Nantou will operate as usual with no suspension of work or school. Yilan County will also remain open despite being under alert.
In contrast, Yunlin, Chiayi City, Chiayi County, Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung in the south will shut down both schools and workplaces. The eastern counties of Hualien and Taitung have also announced full closures.
The offshore counties of Penghu, Kinmen, and Lienchiang are not in the warning zone and will see no disruption. The Central Weather Administration said the storm’s path and intensity could bring strong winds and heavy rainfall to affected areas, with the possibility of additional warnings.
