TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The military has moved ships and transport planes north to protect them from the worst of Typhoon Podul, reports said Wednesday.
The Air Force on Tuesday ordered five C-130 transport planes to fly from their base in Pingtung to Taipei Songshan Airport, according to Liberty Times. The Navy on Monday redeployed one Ching Chiang-class patrol ship, four Kuang Hua VI-class missile boats, and two Chi Yang-class frigates from the port of Suao in Yilan to Keelung for safety.
A Keelung-class destroyer sailed to waters away from the typhoon’s projected path, while two Tuo Chiang-class corvettes still undergoing sea trials — the Dan Chiang and the Liu Chiang — were pulled ashore.
Typhoon Podul battered southern Taiwan before making landfall in Taitung at 1 p.m. Wednesday, while the north of the country remained relatively sunny.
