TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Prosecutors have requested access to video recordings of former Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je’s (柯文哲) recent court appearance to evaluate his conduct, reports said Wednesday.
During a break in an Aug. 7 hearing, Ko allegedly threw documents, knocked over a water bottle, and acted aggressively, per CNA. The Taipei District Court on Wednesday confirmed it had received a request from the Taipei District Prosecutors Office to review the footage.
Prosecutors said they want to examine the video to assess Ko’s behavior, adding that the court should decide whether his actions warrant prosecution.
At the Aug. 7 session, Ko reportedly also grabbed a microphone, accused prosecutors of fabricating stories, and threw documents at them. He was being questioned over the Core Pacific City scandal.
Prosecutors are seeking a 28-year, six-month prison sentence for Ko, accusing him of accepting bribes from a developer in exchange for approving a higher floor area ratio for the Core Pacific City project.
The Taiwan High Court on Monday rejected Ko’s appeal to end his detention. The Taiwan People’s Party founder, taken into custody in August 2024, had his detention extended by two months from Aug. 2.
