TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The D3 light tank, also known as the “Cheetah,” has begun a new round of operational testing since August.
After live-fire turret tests in Jiupeng, Pingtung, subsequent evaluations will be conducted at the Army’s Southern Test Center in Tainan to continue assessing the overall stability of the vehicle, Liberty Times reported.
The D3 retains the same systems as the previous prototype but has a lowered turret and hull and better ammunition capacity. The Armaments Bureau lowered the turret by 10 cm and the hull by 30 cm.
Inside the D3 are protective compartments designed to prevent detonation if the vehicle is hit. The vehicle can also store approximately 40 rounds — a significant increase from 25. It can accommodate four crew members.
The D3 will be displayed at the Taipei Aerospace Defense Technology Exhibition next month.
