TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Lee Teng-hui Foundation announced Sunday it will hold a memorial concert for the late Taiwan president on Oct. 13 at the National Concert Hall in Taipei.
The event will feature a performance by the One Song Orchestra and 2016 Queen Elisabeth violin competition winner Wei Ching-I (魏靖儀), highlighting Lee’s cultivation of Taiwan’s arts and culture, CNA reported.
Foundation chairperson Annie Lee (李安妮) said her father dedicated his life to advancing democracy, leaving behind a profound legacy. However, his passion for the humanities and the arts, especially his deep affection for music, was less well known.
As early as 1979, when serving as Taipei mayor, Lee initiated the Taipei City Music Festival, which was well received by the public. She noted that during his presidency, Lee hosted as many as 25 concerts inside the Presidential Office.
The first half of the memorial concert will feature reinterpreted classic pieces from the Taipei City Music Festival, allowing the audience to experience the intersection of memory and the present.
Tickets went on sale Aug. 15 via the OPENTIX National Performing Arts platform.
