TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – A magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck eastern Taiwan on Tuesday at 9:26 a.m., the Central Weather Administration said.
The quake's epicenter was located 11.7 kilometers east of the Hualien County Government, with a focal depth of 17.1 km under the Pacific Ocean.
The quake’s highest intensity reached level 4 in Hualien County, while both Yilan and Nantou experienced level 2, and other counties experienced level 1 or lower.
Taiwan uses an intensity scale of 1 to 7, which gauges the degree to which a quake is felt at a specific location.
