TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) on Monday urged stronger cooperation with Japan in sectors including semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and defense.
During a meeting with a Japanese Liberal Democratic PartyYouth Division delegation, Lai said closer collaboration would bolster economic resilience and create win–win opportunities for both countries, according to the Presidential Office.
He emphasized that Taiwan and Japan share democratic values. As authoritarianism expands, he thanked the Japanese government for consistently underscoring the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait at international forums.
Lai also credited the LDP Youth Division for promoting Taiwan–Japan exchanges and fostering deeper understanding. He noted Japan’s consistent support in times of difficulty.
Delegation leader Nakasone Yasutaka said both countries must demonstrate their determination to defend themselves and work closely as trusted partners to safeguard regional peace.
Nakasone added that Taiwan and Japan share strengths in next-generation communications and AI, and that closer cooperation would boost each country’s industrial competitiveness.
