TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Beginning Sept. 1, passengers arriving from Canada and transiting through Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport to other destinations will be exempt from additional security screening, the Civil Aeronautics Administration said Thursday.
This measure will save travelers about one hour of waiting time, CAA said. Roughly 21 flights per week, or about 220,000 passengers annually, are expected to benefit.
CAA Director-General Ho Shu-ping (何淑萍) previously led a delegation to Canada to inspect security screening operations at Vancouver International Airport and Toronto Pearson International Airport. They also met with Transport Canada, airport authorities, and security agencies to finalize security exemption procedures.
Ho said that since 2018, Taiwan and Canada have cooperated on one-stop security for checked baggage. This new agreement includes passengers themselves and their carry-on bags.
