TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – A magnitude 5.4 earthquake struck Tainan on Friday at 2:06 p.m., the Central Weather Administration said.
The quake’s epicenter was located 42 kilometers east-northeast of Tainan City Hall, in the Tainan City district of Nanhua, at a focal depth of 15.1 km.
The intensity of the quake reached level 4 in Tainan, Changhua, Yunlin, Chiayi County, and Kaohsiung. Level 3 was recorded in parts of Chiayi City, Pingtung, Taichung, Nantou, Hualien, and Taitung.
Taiwan uses an intensity scale of 1 to 7, which gauges the degree to which a quake is felt at a specific location.
