TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Yunlin Offshore Wind Farm entered commercial operation on Thursday, set to deliver clean power to more than 600,000 households across Taiwan.
Developed by Yunneng Wind Power Co., the 640 MW project features 80 turbines and will generate 2.4 billion kWh of electricity each year, per CNA. The farm is expected to cover 90% of Yunlin County’s non-industrial demand.
The wind farm, located 8–17 kilometers off Yunlin’s coast, spans 82 square kilometers with depths between 7 and 35 meters. Power is transmitted through substations in Taixi and Sihu under two 20-year supply agreements with Taipower.
Yunneng Chair Ku Hsien-hsuan (顧賢鉉) said the project has set benchmarks in local collaboration and financing since securing grid capacity in 2018. He thanked shareholders, contractors, and government agencies for supporting sustainable development.
Yunneng is a joint venture formed by Skyborn Renewables, TotalEnergies, Thailand’s EGCO Group, and Japan’s Sojitz Corporation, per Anue. Skyborn led the project from development through construction and secured full turbine connection in January.
