TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan plans to produce more than 1,000 Kuai Chi unmanned surface vehicles.
After the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology conducted a live-fire drill last week, military officials were reportedly pleased with the Kuai Chi’s combat effectiveness, per Liberty Times.
A total of 1,320 vessels will be produced over five years and delivered in batches to the Navy’s Coastal Combat Command, Marine Corps, and the Army’s Special Forces Command.
The Kuai Chi carries Ching Feng loitering munitions and first-person-view suicide drones. During missions, the drones first launch from the USV to suppress and disrupt enemy close-in defenses, after which loitering munitions are deployed.
Command and control are relayed through an Albatross II unmanned aerial vehicle.
