TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — United Microelectronics Corporation founder Robert Tsao (曹興誠) on Sunday described the failed recall campaign as a successful civil movement.
Tsao said the recall effort, despite not reaching its goal, awakened pro-Taiwanese sovereignty and anti-communist sentiment among the public, Fount Media. He criticized the KMT for allegedly forging petitions and cooperating with TPP Chair Huang Kuo-chang (黃國昌), which he described as damaging to the KMT's credibility.
While acknowledging that the DPP lost the recall campaign, Tsao took aim at internal critics, particularly Taiwan Public Opinion Foundation Chair You Ying-lung (游盈隆), whom he labeled an “internal spy.”
You, who left the DPP in 2019, responded by defending his long-standing support for the party and accusing Tsao of deflecting blame, per Liberty Times.
You argued that Tsao is trying to shift responsibility for the failed recall away from himself. He added that Tsao’s actions have caused serious harm to Taiwan.
You criticized Tsao over three things: dividing Taiwanese society, introducing a fascist tone to the pro-independence movement, and undermining the legitimacy of the “resist China, protect Taiwan” stance.
In addition to his response to Tsao, You also addressed President Lai Ching-te’s (賴清德) recent speech, per China Times. You noted that while Lai has softened his tone, he remains too defensive to foster real cooperation with the opposition.
Since the July 26 recall election failure, You has repeatedly called on DPP Legislator Puma Shen (沈伯洋), DPP caucus convener Ker Chien-ming (柯建銘), and Tsao to take responsibility, per RW News. He urged the DPP to adopt a less combative posture when engaging with rival parties.
