TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Air Force’s first group of student pilots to complete training exclusively on the Brave Eagle advanced jet trainer graduated this month.
The students began training two years ago, transitioning from the T-34 Mentor propeller aircraft directly to the Brave Eagle, per Liberty Times. In May, they switched to the jet to earn their solo-flight patch, and this month they officially qualified as fighter pilots.
The new program streamlines a process that previously required three aircraft types — the T-34, AT-3 Tzu Chung, and Brave Eagle.
As of February, the Air Force was still awaiting delivery of 23 Brave Eagles. Once the full fleet is delivered next year, the aircraft will serve as the primary trainer for the Flight Training Command and for the Thunder Tigers aerobatic team.
