TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Mainland Affairs Council Minister Chiu Chui-cheng (邱垂正) on Wednesday urged Taiwanese entertainers in China to avoid remarks that belittle Taiwan or harm national interests.
Chiu said entertainers must comply with cross-strait regulations and remain mindful of public perception, per Liberty Times. He stressed they should safeguard Taiwan’s sovereignty and overall national interests.
He added that the Ministry of Culture is handling cases through administrative procedures, with a mechanism in place to coordinate with relevant ministries. Once a decision is made, the competent authority will announce it publicly. More than 20 entertainers are currently under investigation, he said.
Meanwhile, China’s Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson Zhu Fenglian (朱鳳蓮) accused the Democratic Progressive Party of probing Taiwanese entertainers’ activities in China to exaggerate the threat of United Front tactics and intimidate those who support cross-strait exchanges.
Zhu claimed that many Taiwanese, including entertainers, are “Chinese,” and that identifying with the Chinese “nation” and opposing “Taiwan independence” is heartfelt. She said Beijing will continue welcoming Taiwanese entertainers, support cross-strait cultural exchanges, and take necessary measures to protect their rights.
