TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A magnitude 6 earthquake struck off the northeast coast of Taiwan at 9:11 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the Central Weather Administration.
The epicenter was located 22.1 kilometers northeast of Yilan County Hall at a depth of 112 kilometers, the CWA said.
Taiwan uses an intensity scale of 1 to 7 to measure how strongly a quake is felt at a specific location. The quake registered an intensity level of 4 in Yilan County and Taipei.
A level 3 was recorded in New Taipei, Taoyuan, Hualien County, Hsinchu County, Miaoli County, and Nantou County. A level 2 was reported in Keelung, Hsinchu, Taichung, Changhua County, Yunlin County, Chiayi County, Taitung County, Chiayi, and Tainan.
An intensity level of 1 was measured in Kaohsiung.
