TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taoyuan International Airport Corporation announced on Wednesday that its flight information display system won gold in the London Design Awards for “Communication Design - Typography and Signage” and the New York Product Design Awards for “Interactive Design - Installation.”
The recent accolades add to a growing list of international recognition for the airport, including being named Skytrax's “World’s Best Baggage Delivery Airport” earlier this year.
TIAC conducted a comprehensive review of 997 information screens at boarding gates, baggage claim areas, check-in counters, and other locations throughout the airport last year. The review examined equipment, passenger decision-making needs, and visual aesthetics and led to an overhaul of the airport's display systems.
According to data from an Airports Council International survey, the airport's upgraded displays improved information recognition speed by 37%, significantly reducing decision-making time. Additionally, passengers enjoyed better wayfinding with ease of movement rising by an average of 12%.
The London Design Awards praised the "visual accuracy and global adaptability" of the airport's new displays as well as its use of energy-saving LED screens.
The New York Product Design Awards recognized the new flight display system for its high standards in terms of overall form, creativity and innovation, functionality, and impact. It praised the upgrade for visual presentation, ease of use, and efficient passenger service.
TIAC said it has received eight awards this year, strengthened its international image, and continuously worked to create a better travel experience for global passengers.
