TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwanese shooters Yang Kun-pi (楊昆弼) and Liu Wan-yu (劉宛渝) captured the bronze medal in the trap mixed team event at the Asian Shooting Championships in Kazakhstan on Wednesday, securing Taiwan’s first podium finish of the tournament.
Trap shooting challenges competitors with targets launched at unpredictable angles and speeds, demanding quick reactions and precise aim. In the bronze-medal match, the Taiwanese duo defeated Qatar 43–37, according to CNA.
Yang, a three-time Olympian, scored 24, 25, and 24 in the qualification rounds for a total of 73 — the highest individual score. Liu contributed steadily with 20, 21, and 24 points, giving the pair a combined total of 138 to advance to the medal round.
Although the pair missed the gold-medal match by just two points, Yang and Liu dominated the bronze final from the start. A flawless 10-hit streak in the third round built a six-point lead over Qatar, which they maintained until the end.
Yang and Liu have a long-standing partnership on the international stage. After winning silver at the 2019 Summer Universiade in Italy, the pair went on to claim titles at the ISSF World Championships and the Asian Shotgun Cup.
The 16th edition of the Asian Shooting Championships continues through Saturday.
