TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A German software engineer captured the moment a bolt of lightning illuminated Taipei 101 during a thunderstorm on July 27.
Tim Volz, 46, said that he took the photo from his home near Elephant Mountain in the evening with a Sony α7R III. He used a 24–105mm lens set at 28mm, f/8 aperture, six-second exposure, and ISO 100.
Volz, who has lived in Taiwan since 2013, said he enjoys taking photos of lightning. When he sees a thunderstorm, he places his camera on the rooftop and uses interval shooting so it can automatically capture a steady stream of photos.
On that day, this photo was the only one with a lightning strike in a series of 1,000 pictures. That evening, he uploaded the photo to Reddit, where it garnered 688 upvotes.
