TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Believe will mark its 20th anniversary at Taipei Music Expo this weekend.
Founded in 2005 and based in Paris, Believe has become one of the world's leading independent digital music distributors. It has expanded to establish physical offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Guangzhou, and Taipei, serving more than 1,000 labels and artists.
From Aug. 29-31 at Taipei Music Expo the local team, led by Managing Director Charles Liu and Label and Artist Solutions Director Andrew Chen, will be joined by partners including Sound of Tomorrow, and Fortune Coookie Records. Also, rapper CashTrippy will promote the next generation of Mandopop in the streaming market.
Huang Rong-yi (黃榮毅), founder of both Sound of Tomorrow and Time Machine Records, has partnered with Believe since June 2019. Huang oversees a roster of independent bands, including The Chairs, Modern Cinema Master, and Lilium.
Huang said that his goal is to help artists focus on their creativity, confident in the company's full support: "We believe every release we put out represents the voice of the future."
Fortune Coookie Records, led by producers Howe Chen (陳君豪), Kain Han (韓立康), and Ziya Huang (黃文萱), began its Believe partnership with debut artist, Andr. Since the release of her acclaimed album, “shhh, it's under my bed,” Andr has won multiple awards.
Han shared that one of the founding goals of Fortune Coookie Records is to create music that is not only fun, but also rich in character and uniqueness — focusing on works that challenge and expand the tastes of Mandarin-speaking audiences.
Originating in Taiwan, the label is ambitiously setting its sights on the broader Asian market and beyond, including Europe and North America. With Believe’s robust infrastructure and ability to integrate resources across regions, the label hopes to break geographical boundaries and bring Mandarin pop and indie music to the global stage.
Yunnan-based Naxi rapper CashTrippy recently released his debut studio album, “Eternal (萬古),” in collaboration with Believe. He performed on Friday at Nuzone Live House, his debut show in Taipei.
In an interview with Believe’s A&R Executive Jim Tseng, CashTrippy shared that he feels both excited and nervous about this milestone. Despite the pressures of preparing for the show, he said he was determined to deliver a performance that does justice to his work and meets fans’ expectations.
The rapper also thanked the Believe Artist Services team, who played an integral role in shaping the album’s concept and structure, offering support and creative input throughout the process. He revealed that he will be working on his next musical project after the tour concludes.
Believe Managing Director Liu said the Mandopop streaming market has developed rapidly in recent years. As a pioneer in the industry, Believe has accumulated years of knowledge and established strong platform relationships.
Liu said that he is confident the company's international experience and local execution will provide a premier experience for artists.
Believe Taiwan Inc. will host the No. 19 booth at the Taipei Music Expo, on the second floor of the Taipei Music Center. The team welcomes professionals to discuss potential collaborations.
