TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Democratic Progressive Party Legislator Puma Shen (沈伯洋) on Sunday alleged he has been the target of harassment and surveillance due to his outspoken stance against the Chinese Communist Party.
During a program hosted by television personality Cheng Hung-yi (鄭弘儀), Shen said he received a death threat he believes came from pro-CCP actors, per ETtoday. He expressed frustration at speculation the threat was fabricated, calling such insinuations “the most unacceptable” aspect of the incident.
Shen also claimed he is followed daily and said he recently caught someone attempting to install a surveillance device. He reported the case to the police but has yet to receive an update.
Kuomintang Legislator Wang Hung-wei (王鴻薇) sent a letter to the National Police Agency seeking clarification on Shen’s case, per Newtalk. She expressed concern over the lack of progress, particularly given that Shen reportedly provided the license plate number of the alleged suspect.
Wang cited Shen’s previous claims of surveillance and identity theft in her criticism of Interior Minister Liu Shyh-fang (劉世芳), former Interior Minister Lin Yu-chang (林右昌), and national security agencies for failing to resolve multiple incidents involving Shen.
In a 2024 livestream, Shen alleged someone impersonated him to attend a conference on democratic movements in Eastern Europe. Wang urged authorities to investigate, but Shen pushed back, accusing her of having political motives.
Sources within the Investigation Bureau told Taiwan People News that Shen did not provide sufficient information about the alleged identity theft, making it difficult to pursue a legal case. The sources added that jurisdictional limits and a lack of inter-agency cooperation have hindered further inquiry.
