TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A delegation of 27 Kuomintang legislators visited Japan’s Diet on Thursday in the largest-ever overseas trip by Taiwanese lawmakers, per Liberty Times.
The group represented more than half of the KMT’s 52 members in the Legislative Yuan. Their morning visit included discussions with 20 Japanese legislators on disaster relief cooperation and Taiwan’s bid to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership.
Japan-ROC Diet Members’ Consultative Council Chair Furuya Keiji stressed that peace in the Taiwan Strait is vital for both Taiwanese and Japanese residents in Taiwan. He expressed hope for deeper exchanges to safeguard regional stability.
KMT Legislative Caucus Whip Fu Kun-chi (傅崐萁) cited Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.’s presence in Kumamoto as a factor in local talent training and innovation. He said it was natural for Japan and Taiwan to lead Asia’s AI development and argued that US tariffs make closer cooperation between the two countries even more necessary.
