TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A parliamentary delegation from Italy arrived in Taiwan on Thursday and was welcomed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍).
The delegation of seven lawmakers is led by Senator Adriano Paroli, who is chair of the Italy-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Group. It represents the largest delegation of Italian lawmakers to visit Taiwan in recent years, according to a foreign ministry press release.
In addition to Paroli, the delegation also includes Senators Gianpietro Maffoni, Alberto Losacco, Dario Damiani, Cinzia Pelligrino, as well as two members from the Chamber of Deputies, Andrea Orsini and Luca Squeri. The foreign ministry expressed its thanks for the lawmakers’ support and for Italy’s long-term commitment to supporting peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
During the lawmakers’ stay in Taiwan, they will meet with Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) and defense officials to discuss regional issues and bilateral ties. The delegation is also set to attend the opening of the Semicon Taiwan exhibition for insight into one of Taiwan’s major tech industries.
