TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan is implementing a “three-chain strategy” to counter authoritarianism and solidify its global standing, Taiwan’s representative to New Zealand Joanne Ou (歐江安) said last week.
Speaking at an event at Victoria University of Wellington, Ou said Taiwan is building a global democratic value chain, strengthening partnerships in the First Island Chain, and forming a non-Chinese supply chain, per CNA.
Taiwan is home to 23 million people who uphold democratic values and a government that pursues forward-looking policies, Ou said. The country’s resilience has been key to its continued stability and strength.
The representative called on democratic partners, including New Zealand, to unite against authoritarian regimes. She criticized actions that unilaterally alter the status quo, distort World War II history, or misinterpret UN Resolution 2758.
She emphasized that Taiwan’s location in the Indo-Pacific makes it the first line of defense against authoritarianism. She expressed confidence that building partnerships with like-minded countries would help address geopolitical uncertainties and strengthen the global democratic value chain.
She added that to prevent critical industries from falling under authoritarian control, Taiwan will leverage its strengths in advanced technology and the semiconductor sector to form a trustworthy and transparent non-Chinese supply chain.
Ou said that in today’s turbulent times, Taiwan’s inclusion in UN-related mechanisms can help prevent war and promote global cooperation and mutual prosperity.
