TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s young archers won gold at the World Archery Championships, showcasing the country’s rising talent on the global stage.
Chiu Yi-ching (邱意晴), Hsu Hsin-tzu (許芯慈), and Lee Tsai-hsuan (李采璇) — with an average age under 20 — claimed Taiwan’s first gold in six years at the championships. They beat Japan 6-0 in the recursive bow event on Wednesday in Gwangju, South Korea, per Liberty Times.
Originally seeded fifth, the trio showed composure and resilience throughout the tournament. They defeated powerhouse teams such as Germany and the US in tense shoot-offs, then stunned host South Korea in the semifinals, per World Archery.
The win not only ended a six-year gold medal drought for Taiwan in the event but also underscored the potential of this youthful team.
Chiu is an Olympian who appeared at the Paris Games. She is a student of sports science at Tsinghua University in Hsinchu.
Recurve archery uses a bow that curves away from the archer, allowing greater energy and speed.
