TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Foodpanda said Wednesday it has invested NT$2 billion (US$65.9 million) in rider safety since 2023, launching an upgraded system to improve training.
The company unveiled an expanded 360 Safety Program, introducing a five-stage ALERT road safety system, per CNA. The framework promotes awareness and accountability to improve traffic safety.
The system covers: Awareness, Learn, Exam, Resource, and Turn. Awareness provides riders with timely information, such as heat alerts and hydration maps. Learn converts in-person safety training into online modules, which have been viewed nearly 40,000 times since launch.
“Learning” means there is an exam that requires every rider to complete the “Bear Safe” test covering occupational, road, and food safety. “Resource” ensures financial backing, with third-party liability coverage and incentives totaling NT$2 billion, alongside new annual safety budgets in the tens of millions.
“Turn” encourages riders to flag hazards through the Ministry of Transportation’s road safety plan. These reports now make up a quarter of the national total, with more than half leading to corrective measures.
Foodpanda Operations Director Huang Chao-chieh (黃昭傑) said the company is now in its sixth year promoting road safety. He noted that the upgraded system gives riders stronger support while the “Turn” program accounts for 25% of nationwide safety incident reports.
Foodpanda has also partnered with local brand Gallant Outdoor to create a high-visibility delivery vest. Combining reflective material with breathable mesh, the company said the gear is popular in Taiwan and is drawing attention from overseas markets.
