TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan must increase war reserves to sustain combat power during a conflict, Lieutenant General Huang Wen-chi (黃文啓), director of the defense ministry’s Department of Strategic Planning, said Tuesday.
Speaking at a press conference, Huang said that given China’s growing ability to impose a blockade, boosting wartime stockpiles is imperative, per CNA.
His remarks follow the Cabinet’s recent approval of a special resilience budget that would extend wartime reserves from 30 days to 120 days.
Huang said fuel and drinking water are priority items in the budget. Other supplies — such as spare parts, ammunition, and rations — require proper storage conditions, so funds are also earmarked to renovate specialized depots. Reserves will increase in step with depot upgrades and procurement schedules, he said.
He added the ministry will continue reviewing and adjusting measures to counter potential enemy blockades and maintain combat capability during an invasion.
