TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan Mobile is stepping up climate action by launching sustainability initiatives with 30 supply chain partners.
The telecom brought suppliers to Tainan’s Taijiang National Park this month, where 500 mangrove trees were planted under its blue-carbon restoration project, per CNA.
The company said the effort reflects a commitment to coastal resilience and natural carbon sinks. Taiwan Mobile CFA Chang Chia-chi (張家麒) said Taiwan Mobile will keep building platforms to create a green future with its supply chain.
Suppliers joining the planting included Nokia Taiwan, Ericsson Taiwan, and others. Taiwan Mobile said it plans to expand the project to 3,000 trees across 2.7 hectares of idle fishponds within three years.
The telecom outlined three areas of action — strengthening adaptation by restoring mangroves, helping suppliers set science-based targets through SBTi seminars, and advancing the energy transition by negotiating with high-carbon partners to adopt green electricity.
The company added that last year it helped 25 suppliers set emissions-reduction goals using SBTi pathways, achieving an average 3% cut. Its long-term target is to reduce supply chain emissions by 23% by 2035, per UDN.
Looking ahead, Taiwan Mobile will begin group purchases of green power with high-carbon suppliers this year to accelerate renewable adoption.
