TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Synera Renewable Energy signed a contract with Siemens Gamesa on Tuesday for the supply and maintenance of wind turbines for the Formosa 4 wind farm off the Miaoli coast.
The contract requires localized production of the wind turbines, contributing to the domestic economy and advancing energy independence. It also supports Taiwan's ongoing transition to green energy, according to CNA.
In 2022, Formosa 4 was awarded 495 MW in installed capacity in the first round of bidding for Phase 3 block development. The project is SRE's third wind farm in Taiwan, following its entry into the market in 2012.
Formosa 4 is also the company's third collaboration with Siemens Gamesa. The contract calls for the supply and maintenance of 35 14 MW wind turbines from its Taichung plant to support the project's grid connection.

SRE Chair Lucas Lin (林雍堯) said in a press release that over the past six years, SRE has established itself as the leading offshore wind farm developer in Asia-Pacific with notable accomplishments like delivering Taiwan's first offshore wind farm, Formosa 1. Lin said a domestic team had fully planned the project, making it the first within the group.
Mogens Jakobsen, global head of sales at Siemens Gamesa, said that the company's installed offshore wind capacity in Taiwan has exceeded 3 GW, making Taiwan a key market for the company. Jakobsen said Formosa 4 will strengthen localized production at the Taichung plant.
Formosa 4 received its construction permit at the end of 2024. Upon completion, it is expected to provide electricity to 500,000 households.
