TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan is already producing Strong Bow missiles, Li Shih-chang (李世強), director of the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology, said on Wednesday.
NCSIST’s decision to exhibit the Strong Bow missile at Thursday’s Taipei Aerospace and Defense Technology Exhibition means it has entered mass production, Li said, per CNA. The missile is configured to intercept at an altitude of about 70 kilometers, while other lower-tier missile types and weapons counter different incoming threats, he said.
Lu Chien-sheng (盧健勝), deputy project lead for the Sky Bow program, said the Strong Bow, along with other systems like the Patriot or Sky Bow III, form a layered interception network.
The Strong Bow missile’s mobility increases battlefield survivability and allows it to command and coordinate other air-defense missiles, Lu said. It consists of an interceptor vehicle and a booster that are protected by a composite-material airframe.
The missile is equipped with Taiwan’s first domestically produced active electronically scanned array radar, which makes it capable of searching, tracking, and target identification.
