TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Two tropical depressions approaching Taiwan could strengthen into typhoons, the Central Weather Administration said Wednesday.
Tropical Depression 20 is expected to approach Taiwan first, with its outer circulation affecting the country through Saturday. Tropical Depression 21 may intensify into a medium-strength typhoon before nearing Taiwan on Tuesday and Wednesday, and a sea warning could be issued as early as Sunday night, according to CNA.
If named, TD 20 and TD 21 could become Typhoon Mitag and Typhoon Ragasa, respectively.
Southeastern Taiwan and the Hengchun Peninsula are likely to experience showers and thunderstorms on Thursday, with isolated heavy to torrential rain possible from Hsinchu to Tainan. Central and northern Taiwan are expected to have scattered afternoon thundershowers, while Yilan may see isolated showers.
On Sunday, showers may occur along Keelung’s north coast, in the Taipei area, eastern Taiwan, and the Hengchun Peninsula, with afternoon thundershowers in central and southern Taiwan. Monday is forecast to bring showers or thunderstorms to northern Taiwan, eastern regions, and the Hengchun Peninsula, with heavier rainfall possible in the northeast and east.
By Tuesday and Wednesday, the wind and rain from TD 21 may affect southeastern and southern Taiwan, particularly Pingtung and mountainous areas, while other regions are expected to see scattered showers and thunderstorms.
