TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) on Monday welcomed a Canadian national security delegation.
Hsiao said Taiwan and Canada have cooperated on trade, addressing gray-zone coercion, and cultural and Indigenous exchanges, according to the Presidential Office. She said she was pleased to see the continued expansion of the bilateral partnership.
Hsiao said peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait are critical to global interests and thanked Canada for affirming the importance of regional peace and freedom of navigation.
She also noted the signing of a bilateral agreement on dark-vessel detection, which fosters technology and information sharing to strengthen Taiwan’s maritime monitoring capacity.
Hsiao added that the two sides share strategic interests in safeguarding regional peace and stability, as well as in emerging defense technologies.
The delegation includes former Chiefs of the Defence Staff Tom Lawson and Wayne Eyre.
