TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Typhoon Ragasa is moving away from Taiwan, but eastern and southern coastal areas will still see rain, wind, and waves, according to the Central Weather Administration.
At 7 a.m., Ragasa was 340 km southwest of Eluanbi, moving west-northwest at 21 kph, per Liberty Times. CWA meteorologist Wu Wan-hua (伍婉華) said sea warnings for southeastern waters and land warnings for Pingtung, Taitung, and Kaohsiung were lifted by 8:30 a.m. A sea warning remains for the Bashi Channel, Dongsha Island, and the southern Taiwan Strait.
Wu said from Monday night through Tuesday morning, eastern Taiwan and the mountainous areas of Taoyuan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung saw rainfall of 50 to 70 mm per hour. This will continue on Tuesday, though rain in the northeast will gradually ease.
On Wednesday, rain will ease in the north. Hualien and Taitung are expected to see showers and thunderstorms, while Hengchun Peninsula could have torrential rain.
The CWA has issued torrential rain advisories for Pingtung, Hualien, Taitung, and Kaohsiung. Heavy rain advisories are in place for New Taipei, Taoyuan, Taichung, Nantou, Keelung, Taipei, Hsinchu, Chiayi, and Tainan.
From 12 a.m. on Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday, mountainous areas recorded over 300 mm of rain. Yilan received 348 mm, Hualien 321.5 mm, Taitung 314.5 mm, Pingtung 365 mm, and Taoyuan 242.5 mm.
