TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Taipei Representative Office in Germany and Taiwanverein in Deutschland e.V., under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, will co-host the 2025 Taiwan Film Festival Berlin, opening Sept. 26 at the Colosseum Filmtheater in Berlin.
According to the Ministry of Culture, this year’s theme, “Her Stories,” showcases 20 Taiwanese films depicting women’s lives across generations and social milieus. Selections span decades, from “Kuei-Mei, a Woman” and “Tropical Fish” to “Zinnia Flower” and “The Uniform,” offering classic moments and contemporary perspectives on evolving portrayals of Taiwanese women, per CNA.
The opening film, “Yen and Ai-Lee,” has earned international nominations and awards, including Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Horse Awards and the Kim Jiseok Award at the 2024 Busan International Film Festival. Director Lin Shu-yu (林書宇) and actress Xia Yu-qiao (夏于喬) will join a panel discussion after the screening.
The festival will also feature a Taiwanese cultural market with boba tea and braised snacks, inviting attendees to experience Taiwanese culture through taste and scent.
The 2025 Taiwan Film Festival Berlin aligns with the “Year of Taiwan Culture in Europe 2025,” an initiative led by the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to deepen cultural exchange with Europe. Organizers said the festival serves as a bridge linking Taiwanese culture with German and broader European audiences.
