TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Rains and flooding brought by Typhoon Ragasa have caused over a dozen deaths with over a hundred missing, according to the Central Emergency Operation Center.
As of 8 a.m., the typhoon has left 14 dead, 124 missing, and 34 injured nationwide, with all fatalities in Hualien County's Guangfu Township, per Liberty Times. Flooding was reported in 52 locations, with one area still inundated.
The center said rainfall at the Mataian River barrier lake in Wanrong Township reached an estimated 700–800 mm between Sept. 22 and 25, resulting in extensive overflow and flooding. A total of 8,310 people were evacuated, with 20 shelters opened, housing 777 residents.
According to the center, there were 463 reports of damage, including fallen trees, damaged roads, tunnels, bridges, landslides, infrastructure, and utilities. Power outages affected 15,227 households, while 4,378 households lost water service.

Landlines were cut for 1,251 households, with 199 pending repair. Damage was reported at 16 mobile base stations, with four awaiting restoration.
The Hualien County Fire Department deployed 67 vehicles, 20 ambulances, and 180 personnel for rescue operations. Reinforcements came from Taitung, Pingtung, New Taipei, Yilan, Taipei, and the National Fire Agency’s Special Search and Rescue Team.
The team has dispatched 48 vehicles, 20 boats, 148 personnel, and two rescue dogs. In addition, the military’s Fourth Theater of Operations Command sent 340 troops, along with 37 vehicles and machines, to Guangfu Township for disaster recovery.
