TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The foreign ministry on Friday held an awards ceremony for its first international contest, the Finding Taiwan International Short Film Contest.
The ministry said Wednesday the contest received 283 submissions from 21 countries, with 11 winners, and five popularity prizes. The total prize money was NT$1 million (US$31,000).
The contest invited contestants worldwide to produce short films themed “Finding Taiwan in the World.” Contestants drew on everyday life, travel memories, and cultural exchanges to depict their impressions of Taiwan.
Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) said during the awards ceremony that global engagement has fended off attempts to diminish Taiwan’s presence in the international community. He added that Taiwan cannot be erased from the world stage despite being suppressed, per CNA.
Lin also emphasized the role of cultural diplomacy for Taiwan, noting that its influence extends beyond formal recognition. He said Taiwan’s presence abroad remains visible even when it cannot appear under its own name.
