TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) said the city government will continue efforts to attract more international companies to set up operations near the Taoyuan Airport MRT Linkou Station, aiming to boost local development and create jobs.
In September 2024, the city government sought to bring Nvidia to the city. However, in May, the company announced plans to set up its Taiwan headquarters at the science park located between Taipei’s Beitou and Shilin districts, per CNA.
The 94.38-hectare park is surrounded by key institutions, including Taipei Veterans General Hospital, a campus of National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, and facilities operated by Asus. The park aims to become a hub for smart healthcare and technology industries.
However, the project has faced delays due to unresolved land-use rights negotiations with the Taipei City Government. Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) said the city government will coordinate with Shin Kong Life Insurance, the current land-use rights holder, to help ensure Nvidia can successfully establish its Taiwan headquarters in Taipei.
In response, Hou said that if Nvidia has to reconsider its location, New Taipei will again seek to attract the company to the area around the station and provide a well-equipped environment to support its operations.
Most of the land surrounding the station is government-owned, which significantly reduces the chance of land disputes, Hou noted.
The city government is also improving highway access and plans to construct new light-rail lines and roads to connect the area with Taipei Port. These transport upgrades, alongside the existing metro system, are expected to link Linkou with the science park in Xinzhuang, establishing an additional industrial hub in the city.
Hou added that New Taipei has a well-developed industry chain, with more than 200 AI-related companies operating there. He said the city offers key advantages for development, including a strong supply chain, convenient transportation, and abundant land resources.
