TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s stock market opened higher Thursday and held gains throughout the session, lifted by record highs in the US S&P 500 and Dow Jones indices.
Artificial intelligence-related and memory chip stocks led the rally, pushing the Taiwan Capitalization Weighted Stock Index (TAIEX) to an intraday high of 26,489.79. The TAIEX closed up 395.48 points at 26,378.39, with turnover totaling NT$490 billion (US$16 billion), according to CNA and CTEE.
TSMC set new records, hitting an intraday high of NT$1,370 before closing up 3.02% at NT$1,365. Foxconn gained 2.97% to NT$225, Delta Electronics rose 2.64% to NT$894, while MediaTek slipped 0.39% to NT$1,280.
US-based Micron Technology gained more than 8%, boosting sentiment in Taiwan’s memory sector. Phison Electronics hit its daily limit at NT$796, while Winbond Electronics climbed 6.5% to NT$36 on heavy turnover of 464,000 lots, or 464 million shares, the most actively traded stock of the day.
Nanya Technology rose 4.59% to NT$79.7. PSMC fell 0.72% to NT$27.7 after late-session selling, with volume exceeding 437,000 lots.
Adata announced the acquisition of Licon De Poan Pneumatic at NT$32 per share on Wednesday, a premium of about 11.11% based on Licon’s closing price of NT$28.8 on Wednesday. Licon immediately hit its daily limit of NT$31.65 at the open, while Adata gained 6.69% to NT$167.5.
Teco Electric and Machinery also hit its daily limit of NT$114.5, driven by AI data center demand, global power construction projects, and cooperation with Foxconn. Trading volume exceeded 162,000 lots, with more than 111,000 queued for post-market buying.
Senior analyst Chien Po-yi (簡伯儀) said Taiwan stocks delivered a strong third-quarter performance underpinned by global capital inflows. The monthly moving average has now risen for five consecutive months, with the index gaining more than 3,500 points for the quarter.
Technical indicators remain broadly positive, Chien noted. He expects the market’s bullish momentum to continue into the fourth quarter.
Chien advised investors to buy on dips and highlighted opportunities in AI infrastructure, silicon photonics, edge AI, robotics, semiconductors, printed circuit boards, thermal solutions, low Earth orbit satellites, cybersecurity, defense, and high-dividend stocks.
