TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – A tax rebate of NT$10,000 (US$329) per person will likely be distributed before the end of November, reports said Friday.
The Legislative Yuan first needs to approve a NT$570 billion special budget containing NT$236 billion for the handout program. Earlier reports mentioned October as the date for the distribution of the money.
Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) said Friday the Legislative Yuan first needed to complete its review and pass a third reading, while the president would have to promulgate the budget decision, per CNA. The distribution of the money could start within one month and be completed within seven months afterward, the premier said.
KMT Legislator Yeh Yuan-chih (葉元之) said lawmakers are likely to approve the budget in mid-October, making the handing out of the cash possible in mid-November. Cho agreed with the statement, adding that the government would ask the president to quickly promulgate the budget. The Cabinet has already requested the Ministry of Finance to prepare for the handout, he said.
