TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – A tropical depression southeast of Japan is likely to turn into Tropical Storm Halong, bringing rain to north Taiwan next week, the Central Weather Administration said Saturday.
During the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, Taitung and the Hengchun Peninsula in Pingtung are likely to receive sporadic rainfall due to Typhoon Matmo, per CNA. However, the storm is moving away in the direction of China’s Hainan, reducing its impact on Taiwan, according to forecasters.
Tropical depression TD25 near Japan is expected to turn into Tropical Storm Halong on Sunday before moving toward Okinawa.
As a result, northeasterly winds will bring increased chances of rain in Keelung, Yilan, and the mountains in the Greater Taipei area from Wednesday. The east coast and the south could also experience afternoon thunder showers around the same time, according to forecasters.
