TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — “Seed Journey,” New Taipei City’s Wetland Art Festival, opened Saturday at Xinhai Wetland under Xinyue Bridge in Banqiao.
Organizers said the event serves as both an art exhibition and a platform for environmental education, with invited artists sharing visions of coexistence with nature alongside concepts of sustainability, per CNA.
Now in its sixth year, the festival’s theme, “Seed Journey,” symbolizes hope, continuity, and regeneration. Artists from Taiwan, Mexico, and Malaysia joined young creators from an environmental art camp to produce 14 works that blend environmental awareness with creativity.
New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih (侯友宜) said the Dahan River once suffered ecological damage from industrial and domestic wastewater. He said building sewers and artificial wetlands with natural purification mechanisms has significantly improved local water quality.
Hou added the Dahan River has become a vibrant green corridor that attracts many waterfowl, thanks to sustained municipal efforts. The exhibition encourages the public to reduce plastic use and appreciate environmental art through Nov. 4.
