TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — More than 80% of international visitors to Taiwan include night markets in their plans, according to the Tourism Administration’s 2024 survey of tourist spending and behavior.
The survey found that 83% of visitors explored night markets, with Raohe, Shilin, and Ningxia the top three. Night markets ranked as the third most common activity, after shopping and visiting historical sites.
The survey also showed that 45% of tourists were visiting Taiwan for the first time in five years. Beyond night markets, top draws included Taipei 101, Ximending, and Jiufen.
Natural scenery left a strong impression on travelers. In favorite-attraction rankings, Sun Moon Lake placed first, followed by Jiufen and Tamsui.
More than 90% of visitors shopped for souvenirs or local specialties during their stay. Both group and independent travelers most often bought local specialties or snacks.
For second-place purchases, group travelers favored tea, while independent travelers chose clothing and accessories.
The survey reported a 95% confidence level and a sampling error of less than 1.3%.
