TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — EVA Air reported two incidents involving its Boeing 787 fleet on Saturday: a tail strike on landing at Taoyuan International Airport and contact with a passenger boarding bridge at Osaka’s Kansai International Airport.
Flight BR711 from Shanghai Pudong attempted to land at 1:45 p.m. when the tail strike occurred, per UDN. The crew initiated a go-around and landed safely on the second approach.
An inspection found minor damage limited to the tail-strike protection system. After the protective strip was replaced, the aircraft’s structure was deemed serviceable.
In a separate incident, EVA Air flight BR117 sustained minor damage at Kansai after the aircraft’s left side contacted an air bridge following arrival, per UDN.
The return leg to Taiwan was canceled for inspection and possible repairs. EVA Air said it assisted passengers with rerouting, though some were rebooked for Sunday.
The airline apologized for the disruptions.
